A license plate recognition camera picked up a 2008 black BMW 328i bearing a New York registration entering Westfield, Westfield police said in a release. The vehicle was involved in a shooting that occurred in Jersey City a day before and was believed to be armed, police said.

The driver, Rianna Williams, was taken into custody at Carol Road and Lynn Lane and an investigation ensued, police said. She was working as a driver for a food delivery service, police said.

Officers found a spent shell casing on the front passenger side, police said. A further search discovered Glock 26 handgun on the floor beneath the front passenger seat, police said.. It was loaded with a single 9 mm Luger cartridge in its chamber, police said. Additional shell casings were also visible in the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle was seized and Williams was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, police said. She resisted officers actions to secure her and damaged departmental property, and was charged with criminal mischief and obstructing administration of law, police said.

The seized vehicle she was operating was turned over to the Jersey City Police Department for further investigation, police said.
